Financial literacy presented with a comedic twist

Funny Money is a traveling comedy that aims to teach students about how to be financially responsible. The comedy visited BML on November 21 with the goal of teaching students how to make smart financial decisions.

The key speaker, Denis Grignon, is a comedian, award-winning journalist and former radio reporter. When visiting BML, Grignon spoke to the grade 11 and 12 students. He explained in a comedic way why it’s important to budget, save, invest and stay debt free. Grignon’s talk lasted for the majority of Block A and had some interesting turns.

One of the interesting turns was when three students had a dance off to win $50; however, dancing wasn't the only way students won money when learning about finance. Throughout the talk, students were asked money questions and if they were right they were given $1 to $5. The promise of cash definitely had some students more than willing to answer the questions.

Over all Funny Money was an interesting and comedic way for grade 11 and 12 students to learn how to be more financially responsible, without the fear of being yelled at for spending a little too much.
